Students thinking about a career in STEMM have many routes available to them; you can be greatly advanced by gaining first-hand experience in working in a laboratory or technical setting. This can be invaluable to add to your CV, give you a good focus in any interview, and is desirable for many potential employers or students intending to go onto further education (MSc, PhD).
GenerationResearch have lots of great opportunities available for students at the University of York and across Yorkshire, Humberside, and Teesside (please check the projects for eligibility criteria).
